England thrashing Georgia 40-0 last weekend in a bonus-point win that puts them just ahead of Ireland

Both unbeaten Group A sides collide after opening their accounts with impressive victories, with England thrashing Georgia 40-0 last weekend in a bonus-point win that puts them just ahead of Ireland, who dominated Wales in a convincing 32-9 victory in Dublin. England remain the team to beat so far, having recently reclaimed the Six Nations crown for the first time in three years, but Ireland will be smarting from letting their slip on the Championship and will be out to prove a point this afternoon – not least because they have suffered defeat in their last three outings against England.

Eddie Jones has been quick to try get into the heads of the Irish this week, but his team selection featured few surprises as he recalled first-choice props Mako Vunipola and Kyle Sinckler as well as flankers Tom Curry and Sam Underhill, though George Ford is among the replacements. Ireland also make four changes with Andy Farrell forced to replace the injured Johnny Sexton at fly-half with Ross Byrne. Two other changes come in the back line with Bundee Aki and Keith Earls recalled, while CJ Stander comes into the back row. Follow the live updates below.

Gibson-Park misses touch from the box-kick and May counters. England attack quickly and Daly tries to chip over to the corner for Lawrence to attack, but the ball finds touch first. Ireland don’t take the lineout cleanly, and Underhill dives on the ball after making the tackle… he thinks he’s scored… we’re going to the TMO…

It’s a big stop from Ireland! They manage to dislodge the ball in the maul and dive on it to prevent the maul getting going, and the celebration form the men in green is so emphatic referee Pascal Gauzere has to tell them to chill, with Lowe running in from the opposite wing to celebrate. You sense that’s a bit of retaliation for the England celebrations there.

Curry gets himself over Gibson-Park in as strong a jackal position as you will see, and he gets absolutely pole-axed by Stander in an attempt to clear him out before taking two more violent hits in the process. He wins the penalty, but my that was brutal to watch.

Ireland very nearly get on the board after a moment of brilliance from Gibson-Park. He steps down the blindside to commit Lawrence and Slade, only to slip the ball inside to Earls who breaks free and beats last-man Daly. May gets back in time to make the try-saver, and when Ireland recycle, Billy Vunipola gets over Keenan to win the penalty for holding on, with Kelleher also penalised for neck roll while clearing out. That was a big chance gone for Ireland.

All you can hear is the England voices right now. “They can only catch it at the front!” “Here we go!” “I’m liking this lads!”

Ireland need to get a grip on the game, and Andy Farrell is already contemplating changes with Iain Henderson warming up down by the tunnel and receiving instructions.

Where to start with that one! Ireland knock on the lineout and England sweep up and break quickly from their own 22. Lawrence passes out to Slade, who gives it to Jonny May, and the wing has Daly outside him for support. He won’t need it though…

May steps in and out to leave Chris Farrell bamboozled and break up field. The outpaces Aki on his inside and then kicks back in-field, beating Gibson-Park in a foot race to collect on the line and score his second in three minutes. Farrell adds the simple conversion and England are killing Ireland with the boot once again.

England very nearly score after rolling the maul around the edge, but Billy Vunipola loses possession at the crucial point and England have to dive on the ball to keep hold of it as it went backwards. Healy is too quick out of the line to concede a penalty advantage, but England won’t need it as Farrell sends a high crossfield kick for Jonny May to collect over Keenan and fight his way through to score. Farrell misses the conversion but the first points of the game are on the board.
