Etambuyu Katota-Information and Broadcasting Services Minister DORA SILIYA has called for responsible alcohol drinking among the citizenry during the festive season.
Ms. SILIYA says everyone must practice individual responsibility against alcohol abuse.
Speaking during the Zambian Breweries Pledge to promote responsible drinking in Lusaka’s Chibolya area, Ms. SILIYA said it is unfortunate that Chibolya has the highest levels of alcohol and drug abuse in the county.
She said government takes the fight against drug abuse seriously, hence the promotion of counselling against alcohol and drug abuse in order to end the vice.
And Kanyama Member of Parliament ELIZABETH PHIRI said alcohol abuse contributes to vices that include gender-based violence and road accidents.
Ms. PHIRI who is also Gender Minister said drinking responsibly is everyone’s responsibility.
She said this in a speech read for her by Ministry of Gender Director Gender Rights Protection LYNN HABANJI.
Meanwhile, Zambian Breweries Director Corporate Affairs EZEKIEL SEKELE said there is need for more sensitisation on responsible alcohol intake among youths.
