Striker Alex Ngonga has returned to the Zambia national team to compete for a spot in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifiers against Mauritania and Tunisia in September.
The Nkana striker is one of 30 home-based players named by interim Chipolopolo coach Beston Chambeshi on Wednesday.
This Thursday, August 5, Chambeshi will hold his first training camp with the local call-ups in Lusaka.
Ngonga returns to the Zambia squad for the first time since suffering a long-term injury in 2018.
His return to Chipolopolo comes after he helped Nkana’s FAZ Super League survival by scoring 8 goals in his first three months at the record-13-time champions after leaving Kitwe archrivals Power Dynamos as a free agent last April.
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo will play Mauritania away in Nouchakott on September 1 before hosting Tunisia in Ndola on September 5.
Zambia will play Equatorial Guinea in a Group B doubleheader in October, beginning away on October 6 and returning home on October 10 in Lusaka.
