Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people has praised the Rural Electrification Authority -REA- for being creative in addressing the needs of ordinary Zambians.
The Paramount Chief says REA is among the few institutions in Zambia trying to simplify things so that ordinary Zambians can benefit.
The traditional leader observes that the authority has come up with a number of initiatives that are helping to improve the lives of ordinary Zambians.
He said this when REA Senior Community Development Officer, Vijue Moonga presented a pressure cooker to him at his residence in Kasama.
The Mwinelubemba has since praised REA for promoting the equipment, stating that he will also do his best to help market the product to the community.
The traditional leader said there is need to come up with ways of reducing the burden women in rural areas face in looking for firewood for cooking.
He said most of the places where people used to fetch firewood are now plains as all trees have been cut.
Chief Chitimukulu stated that Lubemba Investment will speak with some donors to consider buying some of the pressure cookers for distribution to the vulnerable in communities.
Earlier, Mr. Moonga explained that the authority is promoting the pressure cooker to bridge the gap for people in rural areas.
Mr. Moonga observed that even after most communities have been connected to power, few use it for cooking, stating that the pressure cooker which uses very little energy will therefore help people especially in rural communities.
