Senior Chief Mwewa of the Ng’umbo people of Chifunabuli district has called on government to consider putting up measures that will enforce media regulation in the country.

The Traditional leader says this will cushion the production of fake news and hate speech.

Senior Chief Mwewa says it is saddening that platforms such as the social media are being used to insult and promote hatred.

He also called for patriotism among all citizens if the country is to maintain the peace it has enjoyed since independence.

The Traditional leader said this when the Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili paid a courtesy call on him at his palace today.

And Reverend Sumaili has warned of stern action against those championing the new culture of insulting elders and leaders in society through the social media.

Reverend Sumaili has challenged the Church to help address the trend noting that some culprits are members of various Churches.

She also met the clergy during which various issues of national importance where discussed.
