The director of the opening ceremony for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has been fired, organisers announced on Thursday, following news reports about his previous comments about the Holocaust.

Seiko Hashimoto, President of Tokyo 2020, stated at a press conference that Kentaro Kobayashi had been fired due to previous comments that made light of a tragedy.
