The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- plans to roof about 10 schools in each province that had their roofs blown off due to heavy rains.

Vice President Inonge Wina disclosed this in parliament today during the Vice President’s Question time.

This was in response to a question from Chifunabuli Member of Parliament Ponde Mecha who wanted to know when the DMMU will roof two primary schools in his constituency.

And the Vice President has disputed claims that the DMMU only attends to people’s problems when there is a by election in the area.

Mrs. Wina said it is the mandate of DMMU to respond to humanitarian needs of the people whether there is a by election or not.

She said the DMMU has never discriminated against any community that calls for relief, further stating that various affected communities have been receiving help.

Mrs. WINA was responding to a question from Manyinga Member of Parliament Robert Lihefu who wanted to know why the DMMU only becomes active when there is a by election in an area.

She further advised parliamentarians to engage the relevant authorities when faced with challenges.
