The ECZ has issued a warning to independent candidates over the use of political party materials and affiliation.

The Zambian Electoral Commission desires to remind all independent candidates running in the next General Election that they should not be associated with any political party.

In a statement, commision corporate relations manager Patricia Luhanga stated that, in accordance with the law, independent candidates must have renounced political party membership “at least two months immediately prior to the date of the election.”

“To this end, independent candidates should desist from using campaign materials for political parties or in any way identify themselves with any political party,” reads the statement.
“The Commission will not hesitate to take appropriate action including disqualification of erring candidates.”
