The Ministry of Agriculture under the United Nation Development Program -UNDP, Strengthening Climate Resilience in Agriculture Project, (SCRALA), has started implementing bee keeping projects in Chongwe district in order to empower farmers with other environmentally friendly farming enterprises.

Speaking during the bee keeping and honey production study tour by selected Chongwe farmers and extension officers in Mpongwe District, Chongwe Senior Agricultural Officer CHINTU CHINTU said his district has not been spared from the adverse effects of climae change hence the need to venture into ecological farming practices.

And Mpongwe District Agricultural Coordinator, HOSEA CHIBALAMUNA said farmers in his district are not only involved in bee keeping but also in value addition.

Meanwhile Chieftainess LESA of the Lamba People of Mpongwe district who appreciated the study tour by Chongwe farmers said bee keeping is one viable enterprise which can reduce on deforestation activities.
