ZAMRA RECALLS SUBSTANDARD ASPIRIN

Information has emerged that the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority has recalled substandard aspirin which was supplied on the Zambian market by Wintech pharmaceuticals limited an Indian company.

The aspirin 75mg tablets USP batch no ET-905 was supplied on the Zambian market in 2020 on dates unknown.

According to a letter dated 7th December 2020, by ZAMRA signed by director general Bernice Mwale indicates that the authority has received a medical product quality problem report relating to Aspirin 75mg supplied by Wintech pharmaceuticals limited.

Ms. Mwale says on inspection, the product has been found non-compliant with respect to appearance and organoleptic tests conducted.

She says the product has been found to have crystals on the tablet coating, has a foul smell and the tablet are breaking easily.

Ms. Mwale says the drug also does not have marketing authorization number and that the manufacturing date is 07th 2019 with expiry date stating 06th 2022.
